Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion is now being replaced in most cases by
the laser but is still offered for
selected cases. Dermabrasion is surgical abrasion of the skin to
smooth irregularities and discoloration of the skin surface
resulting from scars, acne, or tumors. This procedure can be done
under general or local anesthesia. Recovery usually takes about two
weeks. The skin must be protected from any direct or indirect sun
exposure, by use of sunscreens, up to three months postoperatively.
Makeup use can be resumed after about two
weeks. Additional dermabrasion, if required may be done at intervals
of approximately three months.
